My Bread Experiment
I wasn’t going to continue with this blog because I have my plate full enough with the other ones and everything else in my life, but today I did something to change my mind. I guess I will keep this blog even though it will probably have infrequent additions. What I did today was a flower baking experiment. My experiment was inspired by the present terrible situation taking place in the Gaza Strip. I have seen in the news, people being given large bags of flour at the so-called humanitarian aid locations. They are able to obtain these bags of flour if they are lucky enough to be among the few who receive them, and if they aren’t shot and injured or killed in the process. I wanted to know what the result would be if people have nothing but flower and water to use to bake bread. I actually cheated and sabotaged my experiment a bit because I threw in a little bit of salt and baking powder (less than 1/4 teaspoon each). What I ended up with was a small (I just baked a little intentionally) very dense and chewy bread. I even cooked this without greasing my baking dish but this was admittedly just because I forgot to do so. I did put some butter on my flour bread and ate it while it was still warm and found it to be quite edible. (In my opinion anyway.). I realize that my experiment was done with advantages such as electricity and a working oven as opposed perhaps to being cooked over an open fire with less than suitable fuel such as pieces of broken furniture or even burning plastic.
