A Message From Veg-All

Image
Actually, this is a message specifically from the Veg-All carrots.  They say, “We don’t taste bad at all! 😛” I think Veg-All wants to have a word also.  I think it would like to be acknowledged for making a great vegetable filling in a yummy chicken pot pie.  Just kidding, of course.  I don’t really think that canned vegetables have messages to share. ðŸŦĒ I’m not quite that crazy. ðŸĪŠ I have never cared for cooked carrots and normally pick them out of things but last night, I felt the need to concede and admit to myself that the carrots in Veg-All aren’t really that bad when eaten in things like soup or chicken pot pie.

Easy Chicken or Turkey Salad

Image
I love this chicken shredder gadget!  It makes shredding chicken or turkey for chicken or turkey salad super easy!  I got carried away and made a bit too much chicken salad with leftover rotisserie chicken meat.  I learned in the past that leftover chicken or turkey salad is not good for freezing because it changes the consistency of the mayonnaise and makes it clear and no longer good for eating.  I don’t know if this shredder would work well for shredding pork because I haven’t yet tried it.   Below is my favorite recipe for chicken or turkey salad. To shredded chicken or turkey I add the following, which can all be added in amounts of one’s own personal preference.  I just add what seems right to me and I don’t measure anything.  I also add the same ingredients when making tuna fish. Mayonnaise Some plain breadcrumbs Chopped celery Sweet pickle relish and lemon pepper seasoning.

My Bread Experiment

Image
I wasn’t going to continue with this blog because I have my plate full enough with the other ones and everything else in my life, but today I did something to change my mind.  I guess I will keep this blog even though it will probably have infrequent additions.  What I did today was a flower baking experiment.  My experiment was inspired by the present terrible situation taking place in the Gaza Strip.  I have seen in the news, people being given large bags of flour at the so-called humanitarian aid locations.  They are able to obtain these bags of flour if they are lucky enough to be among the few who receive them, and if they aren’t shot and injured or killed in the process.  I wanted to know what the result would be if people have nothing but flower and water to use to bake bread.  I actually cheated and sabotaged my experiment a bit because I threw in a little bit of salt and baking powder (less than 1/4 teaspoon each).  What I ended up ...

Spoiled Sprinkles

Can old cake and cookie decorations go bad?  Yes they can! I just had the not pleasant experience of tasting the answer to this question.  These particular decorations expired in the fall of 2019.  Wow, they expired pre-Covid pandemic. ðŸ˜Ŋ  This just made me ponder what I think is an interesting question.  I wonder what percentage of human food that is produced for human consumption is in fact consumed by human beings.

Over Cooked Broccoli

Darn it.  I hate when I do that.  Why did I think that it needed to be microwaved for 4 minutes?  How many watts is our new microwave?   Stay tuned for more information on better broccoli cooking.

Oh Where Oh Where Has My Air Fryer Gone?

Oh where oh where has my air fryer gone?  How I dislike finding your parts on my kitchen counter in such a state. 😧 I simply wanted to wipe you off with some paper towels and just get on with cooking my Great Value brand breakfast sausage.  Whomever takes you out and fills you with soap and water should finish your cleaning. 🙁

Fast Food

Image
How fitting that my first real post for this blog is about fast food.  I know it has nothing to do with my kitchen but it is about food.  I’m here at Raising Cane’s while waiting for an oil change.  It beats just sitting in the waiting room at the shop, and I hadn’t eaten anything yet today.  As my aunt once said, “I would rather be fat and happy than not enjoy what I want to eat.”  Life is short.

Adventures In Reluctant Cooking

Image
Hello there and welcome to my adventures in reluctant cooking.  I am your host for an epic journey into kitchen doldrums, frustrations and perhaps hopefully a few bites worth eating.  Growing up I had no interest in cooking unless my attempted culinary creations fit into the categories of sweet and dessert.  Fortunately, I like to eat more than just dessert and I appreciate good food despite my disliking for the time and effort involved in creating it.  This blog is my attempt to convince myself that yes, cooking can be a fun and enjoyable experience.  It will also serve as a precautionary guide about what not to do in the kitchen.  And if all else fails, I can hopefully find some humor in my kitchen tales of woe.  Whether you are an accomplished chef, a reluctant cook like myself, or simply someone seeking company in kitchen misery, I invite you to join me in my journey of silly kitchen chronicles.  May laughter be our trusty sidekick in life, an...
